Empower Your Body, Mind, and Soul Through Intuitive Flow
Yoga as a Moving Prayer
ABOUT SUSANS YOGA JOURNEY
I've been teaching yoga continuously since 2003 (whoa, time flies)! My beginnings stem from a rigorous hot yoga system, and through the years my practice and teaching have evolved to be-simply put-"intuitive." In this season of my life, I teach and practice various styles of yoga, plus other movement practices including Qoya and Aerials. In the paragraphs below I share yoga practice to the best of my ability from my personal experience.
I highlight the key elements: intention, prayer, dance, empowerment, strength, flexibility, endurance, gratitude and intuitive voice. Beyond the physical asana practice of yoga, I am on the lifetime plan of exploration and meditation. Please enjoy a few of my recorded audio guided meditations that are shared in my Free Downloads page.
empowerment is a natural effect for anyone who has a continuous yoga practice.
As I open my practice, I begin by connecting to my breath and silently stating my intention. An intention comes in the form of a type of dedication to a particular person, cause, myself, the universe, or whatever calls into my awareness and heart space. In doing this I am making the practice more meaningful, beyond just physical exercise. There is an added power by setting an intention. The movements then become like a physical expression of prayer. I find the best way to experience yoga is as a moving prayer. In addition, when I allow myself to connect into the flowing movements from asana to asana, the practice is a dance. Yes, there is form and technique involved, and then there comes a point of letting go of any thinking, and trusting your body to move in a rhythm that feels right.
The feeling of empowerment is a natural effect for anyone who has a continuous yoga practice. The ability to move my body in sometimes challenging positions, whether I actually have the full expression of the asana or not, empowers me through my efforts.
First of all, just making the time to invest in my overall wellness grants me a sense of accomplishment. Of course through consistent yoga practice there is a development of strength, flexibility and endurance, and I enjoy these tremendous physical benefits. When I feel good physically, my energy body responds with complimentary goodness.
The freedom we have to move in any way that we can is a miracle! Our bodies are the temple for our soul, and we have an opportunity to express our soulful selves through movement in the body. When I move in a mindful yoga practice, gratitude bubbles to the surface of my awareness. I am thankful for the ability to just move! Plus, I can easily connect to the gratitude I feel in my heart for various people, places, experiences, cups of tea! which feed my life. By the end of the practice I have let go of any unnecessary chatter in my mind. I have arrived at the rest pose. Here I feel clarity and a stronger connection to my intuitive voice of knowing... ah, so good!
